Rethinking political community in the intersection of feminist theory and democratic theory: New perspectives to feminist transformative politics.
My PhD thesis could best be described as feminist political theory. I examine the often heard claim “if feminists are to think about feminist transformative politics, they should put more theoretical effort on finding new ways of thinking about collective action and political togetherness”. Contemporary feminist theory has been accused of being too individualistic, too subject-centered, and not interested enough in politics. Yet, there has been plenty of interest in theorizing feminist forms of political togetherness, and one of my aims is to give visibility to this literature, and to analyze the vocabularies used for rethinking political community and collective action. I suggest that it is possible to find ways across the gaps in this literature by placing it in critical dialogue with radical democratic theory.
My PhD thesis is supervised by professor Tuija Pulkkinen.
